How your cycle affects your fertility and what to do about it.
Working primarily in a fertility clinic, our practice sees a lot of hormonal imbalance. We treat women of all ages, some college-aged, looking for help to treat painful or irregular cycles. Others are trying to conceive or re-regulate after childbirth or are coming off of the birth control pill. We also see peri and post-menopausal women wanting to restore their energy or their youth while managing chronic pain or other age-related hormonal changes. Regardless of the circumstances, we can help.
So, how do you know if you’re someone who needs this kind of support? An irregular cycle is the first sign with younger women. If you have painful or irregular periods, fibrocystic breasts or ovarian cysts, you may have an estrogen imbalance. Some women are more prone to anxiety, insomnia, or painful cramping before the period starts - possibly due to a problem with progesterone. It’s also possible that high levels of stress are the reason your sex hormones are depleted. When we’re under chronic stress or exhaustion, our sex hormones are converted into cortisol (think fight or flight) and our bodies are more prone to imbalance. Menopause is an inevitable reason why are hormone product changes and affects every woman differently. Whether you let things happen naturally or are undergoing hormone replacement therapy, there are often uncomfortable side effects like night sweats, migraine, hot flashes, and pain. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Trust your gut, if something doesn’t feel right or you’re noticing uncomfortable changes in your energy or routine, let us know. We’d be happy to discuss your health history and interventions to help support you naturally. Acupuncture and herbal therapy can help, but getting to the root cause of your discomfort is of first and foremost importance.
