Why Drink Green Smoothies?

I get a lot of interesting looks when I'm drinking my green smoothie. Some people seem weirded out, but most people seem curious as to what it is and why I'm drinking it. So here's my two cents on why green smoothies rock:

  • Powerful punch - We need those antioxidants, phytonutrients, and all the other goodness in veggies that hasn't been discovered yet in a lab. Even on a good day I'm probably only having one salad, so I love that green smoothies add additional fruits and veggies to my day.  And my three year old will drink just about any green smoothie if it has a little fruit and cacao powder in it. I love that green smoothies keep everything from the fruit and vegetable - you get more fiber as a result. And lets face it, most of us (like 99%) could stand to eat more vegetables.
  • Energy Boost - I tend to get tired in the afternoon in general, so I drink half of my smoothie for my mid-morning snack and the other half in the afternoon. I notice a big difference on days that I don't have my green smoothie. Drinking one allows me to still have some energy available when I get home from work in the evening.

  • Easy to make!

    1. Blend 2 cups of greens in 2 cups of liquid (water, almond milk, coconut water, etc.)

    2. Add 1 sliced and frozen banana, blend

    3. Add 1-2 cups of sliced and frozen fruit, blend again

    4. DON'T add any additional ice, the frozen fruit is enough to make it cold and icy; additional ice will just make it more difficult for your body to digest it.
